Sleeve Gastrectomy

Here at St. Rita’s we offer the two main surgeries for weight loss: the sleeve and the bypass- all performed laparoscopically or robotically.

The sleeve gastrectomy involves removal of a majority of your stomach, leaving you with a stomach the size and shape of a banana. Your intake is limited, thus this operation works by restricting how much food can be taken in at any one time. It is also a powerful operation to decrease your hunger as we remove the cells in the body that make Ghrelin, the hunger hormone. This operation is done laparoscopically or robotically, which limits your post-operative pain and speeds up your recovery.

Surgery is only a tool. If the tool is not used properly, it will not work. We provide pre-operative education and post-operative follow-up as well as ongoing support groups to help you use this tool properly. Long term follow-up is crucial for success with any weight loss operation.
