Since weight loss is not one-size-fits-all, we offer several treatment modalities and St. Rita’s Weight Management Center. Weight loss surgery may not be for everyone. If you are not ready for surgery, or if your BMI is 25-35 medical weight loss is for you. Here at St. Rita’s we offer three main options for treatment of excess weight- all with education and follow-up to help you reach your goal and get on a path to LivWell.
All patients undergo an evaluation with the physician in our center. A thorough history is obtained and reasonable goals set. This is followed by a period of medically supervised weight management as needed. There are often laboratory blood levels evaluated, and all participants have a nutrition evaluation to determine the best option for you. You work closely with the dietitian and nurses, as well as with the physician, in this process. It is imperative that all medically supervised weight management patients understand that weight loss is slow- it’s more about weight management and lifestyle modifications.
Attentive follow-up is necessary. We work hard for you and expect the same effort in return.
WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION
Weight loss medication may be prescribed if you have a BMI ( body mass index) >30 or a BMI >27 with additional comorbid conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus or sleep apnea. Weight loss medications are discussed with patients on an individual basis and prescribed if appropriate. If interested in weight loss medications it is important to call your insurance company to see if they are covered and what your out-of-pocket cost will be, to make sure they are affordable.
