What to Expect After Surgery

After surgery, we continue the education process in the hospital until you go home on post-operative day 1-2. Each patient gets a “user’s manual” to assist you with your new tool. We will be seeing you in the office on a regular basis. Regular, long term follow-up is crucial for success.

Since surgery is done robotically, you get back to your life quicker with quicker recovery. Most patients are back to work within 3-4  weeks of surgery, with the exception of those doing manual labor or heavy lifting. Limited lifting is recommended for 3-4 weeks after surgery and this will be discussed and recommendations made by your surgeon.

Your diet changes significantly after surgery, first with a series of healing diets. You meet regularly with your dietitian until you are back on regular food. Your idea of a regular diet, however, changes significantly. We provide monthly support groups to help you along the way and you may even be asked to help others in our program along their path.

You are on your way to living well!
